This link opens up to Section Six, The Conceptual Design of a Constellation Class Starship and some possible engineering applications of the Three Body Problem of Celestial Mechanics. It's not as far fetched as you might think...
An experimental platform is developed, to test and refine the Theory, using the Lockheed L-1011 Tristar commercial jet. Energy prices are so high now that aerospace companies will try ANYTHING to reduce the cost of fuel. (Boeing is even funding research into anti-gravity they're so desperate.) My research suggests it may be possible to hitch a ride on gravity strings in the upper atmosphere . . . You'll see just how simple the application is.
The Celestial Mechanics theory developed in the "Astronomy" link gets into many more applications, if a little more theoretical - everything from warp drive to material transporters. Amazing enough, the whole theory is already well developed from 100 years of research on the Three Body Problem. All I do is cite some engineering applications. The big question is: if this Theory has been around for a hundred years, who's to say it hasn't long ago been developed, and is now what we see as UFO's . . .
