Deo Vindici - "God will vindicate" is a novel about the Vicksburg Campaign during the Civil War. It can be read on many levels. Spiritually, the Archangel Lucifer asserts God's vengeance by changing the course of the Mississippi River at Vicksburg, right after the Civil War ends. The big mystery, is why?

Formally it's the investigation of the assassination of Confederate General Earl van Dorn just before the Vicksurg campaign in 1863. Dorn was the Stonewall Jackson of the Army of the West - is it coincidence that they were both killed by "friendly fire" in the same week? The web site has links to all the military maps for the battles described in the text. You'll also get a feel for the battlefield strategies and tactics used by both sides, especially how the North used malicious politics to wage war.

There are many parallels in the modern day, versus the issues of the Civil War era. It was rural fundamentalists against urban reformists back then; work ethic values against aggressive commercialism. The theme of the novel is "The Yankees are Coming," and it will give you some sense of what other nations feel in the modern day - as they perceive the behemoth of American business overwhelming their values, subverting their morals, and raping their nation of it's natural and human resources. American corporations need to assert their influence with more sensitivity.
